What Works

What Works Instructional Cycle

The Instructional Improvement Cycle supported through Galileo K‑12 Online begins with goal-setting and planning and is followed by implementation, then evaluation; the results of evaluation then inform decisions guiding the next goal-setting and planning stage. These stages are referred to as Plan, Act, Evaluate/Adapt.

Galileo K‑12 Online users have benefited from this cycle, learn how you can too.

  • Work collaboratively with ATI in planning the implementation of instructional improvement technology in your district
  • Design standards-aligned assessments and instructional content with Galileo tools including Assessment Planner, Test Builder, Dialog Builder, and Dialog Book Builder
  • Schedule activities using the Bulk Scheduler for school‑wide and district‑wide assessments and the Class Calendar for classroom assessments and instruction, including online Instructional Dialogs
  • Automatically create and schedule Intervention Groups reflective of individual student needs as identified in assessments

      1. Implement plans using multiple instruction and assessment delivery options including online, offline, and handheld wireless devices
      1. Monitor participation in assessments and instruction using the Test Monitoring and Dialog Monitoring reports

  • Gain insight with reports of student achievement aggregated at multiple levels and providing actionable information to administrators, teachers, parents, and students
  • Examine student progress using assessment reports providing developmental level scores placed on a common scale through a research program including continuous item calibration using Item Response Theory (IRT)
  • Use time saving features including automatic scoring available for online testing, response pad technology through Mercury, and offline assessment delivery assisted through Scanline
  • Aggregate and disaggregate assessment data at the student, class, school and district level to assist in implementing interventions at multiple levels
  • Run the Intervention Alert report to identify the learning standards for which students have demonstrated mastery and for which further instruction is needed
  • Access Item Analysis Report data to determine what students have learned and what they need to learn to progress further
  • Evaluate instruction based on reliable and valid assessment information including continuously updated forecasts of student achievement on statewide tests. Identify students at risk of not demonstrating mastery on the statewide assessment by using the Benchmark Results dashboard. Also use the dashboard to automatically schedule supplemental instructional materials and/or follow-up quizzes
  • View a projection of the percentage of students at the district, school, class, or customized group levels that are likely to score within each performance level on the statewide assessment by using the Aggregate Multi-Test Report
  • Monitor student performance for adequate yearly progress (AYP) using the Benchmark Results by Groups report. Also, use the report to project the mastery rate for students on statewide assessments, at individual schools, and AYP subgroups
